These programs take place at your school site, using the school gardens and grounds for “hidden wilderness” exploration and engagement.
No need for expensive bussing and field trip logistics!

Life Cycles in the Garden
Designed for 2nd grade students
Meets California State Standards for 2nd grade science and English-language arts
Takes place in the “hidden wilderness” of the school garden or field
Created and taught by Mark Hay

Program happens in three ½ hour sessions over three consecutive weeks. (For example, three consecutive Tuesdays from 9:30-10:00am each day.)

Water in the World
Designed for 5th grade students
Meets California State Standards for 5th grade math, science, and English-language arts
Takes place in outdoor school garden of any size or layout.
Created and taught by Mark Hay

This three day program integrates math, science and language arts standards for 5th grade.

Program happens in three 1 hour 15 minute sessions over three consecutive weeks. (For example, three consecutive Thursdays from 10:00-11:15am each day.)

Coast Live Oak can assist your school in integrating the 3 best students design into a working rainwater harvesting system for the garden.
In the second year and beyond, the Water in the World program will use the system the first year students designed to teach other students the fundamental principles of the water cycle, area and volume, and rainwater harvesting. Students in the second year and beyond are challenged to design a rainwater harvesting system for their condo, apartment, or home.

Tustin Memorial Academy Public Elementary School in Tustin, CA was the first school to participate in Water in the World. The student designed system is installed and they are in their second year of the program.
